With the weather beginning to cool off and people beginning to switch their iced drinks to warmer drinks, I want to introduce you to my current favorite hot drink. I know it’s Pumpkin Spice Latte season, but let me put you on to London Fog Lattes. London Fog Lattes are typically Earl Grey tea with vanilla syrup and steamed milk. However, I think I’ve mastered the London Fog Latte with some slight variations. Here’s how to make my version of a London Fog Latte at home.
First, boil your water and steep your Earl Grey tea bag. I like to use a variation of Earl Grey called Lady Grey by Twinnings. Lady Grey is similar to Earl Grey, but the blend has added notes of citrus. I have also used Lavender Earl Grey and can attest that any blend of Earl Grey is perfect for this recipe.
Next, while your tea is steeping, you can froth or steam your milk with honey. I do not have a steamer so I froth my milk using a handheld frother. I also use dairy-free milk instead of regular milk. I don’t warm my milk prior to frothing but you can. I don’t like my drinks too hot, so by adding frothy cold milk, it helps lower the temperature of my drink. The honey when frothing/steaming is for sweetness so add as little or as much as desired. If you are vegan, I encourage you to use agave or go back to a classic London Fog and use vanilla syrup.
Last, it’s time to put it all together by pouring the frothed/steamed sweet milk over the tea. I sometimes will garnish the top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Enjoy your London Fog! If you’re not too into making a London Fog, Starbucks also makes a London Fog Latte and All In Coffee Shop downtown makes London Fog Lattes as well. London Fog Latte season > Pumpkin Spice Latte season.
