Have you ever wondered what a cartoon version of a Disney movie would look like in real life? Well, take “Mulan” as an example.
I have seen a lot of hype about “Mulan” and I am not going to lie, I was very excited. It felt like my childhood dreams were coming true, but it was also a dream come true for almost every Disney fan because we all loved the original film as kids. The original film not only inspired us, but it taught us what courage and bravery really looked like.
When the real life version of the movie came out, I was excited and had high expectations. I was expecting for the movie to be exactly like the original, but unfortunately, it wasn’t.
There were so many changes to the movie. For example (SPOILER ALERT), some iconic characters were not in the new movie! Instead, they added another character, which definitely made the movie different regarding the plot. Additionally, not only did they remove multiple, iconic characters, but they also completely demolished the romance part of the movie. In the end, the new movie’s message was amazing because it was all centered around Mulan and her devotion to her family; however, the romance would have been so nice to see.
To make matters worse, many of the iconic scenes were also left out of the new movie. To me, it felt like the new movie drained the originality out of the old film. It took out the unique parts of the original film. It feels like “Mulan” isn’t “Mulan”anymore.
Personally, I prefer the original movie; however, in the new movie, I loved how the story was portrayed and the message overall. I do now understand why they removed the romantic plot because in the end, it was about Mulan and her story about how betraying her family led to honoring her family.
Furthermore, it was quite interesting to watch the cartoon version of “Mulan” turn into a reality. I highly recommend watching this movie, but be prepared for the unexpected. I personally give it a 7 out of 10 because they took out the scenes that made “Mulan,”“Mulan”, but it was still well made and entertaining to watch.
