South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster made a campaign stop in Clemson on Monday night.
More than 50 people packed inside the Watt Center to hear McMaster discuss his current platform as well as future plans for the Palmetto State.
McMaster started off the event by mentioning that he has been endorsed by President Donald Trump. McMaster was the first statewide politician to endorse Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
McMaster covered a variety of topics, including tax cuts, school districts, fixing South Carolina roads and offshore drilling.
“We don’t have any place for it [offshore drilling]. Unless you want to put it on the Ocean Course in Kiawah,” he said.
After the Q&A session was opened, The Tiger was able to ask McMaster about concealed carry on college campuses. The state of Georgia enacted a “campus carry” bill last year.
“I see it as a public safety issue,” McMaster said. “If you think you need a pistol, I think you ought to be able to get one unless you’re a convicted criminal or you have some other disability like that. All that is addressed in current law, but it’s a constitutional right. It was put there for a reason, and that reason still exists.”
When asked if he was a Carolina or Clemson fan, McMaster sided with is alma mater.
“Carolina,” he said.
