Despite the announcement being scheduled for Friday, the new student body president and vice president have not been confirmed because of "extenuating circumstances."
The results of the Clemson Undergraduate Student Government president and vice president election were not announced on Friday as scheduled due to “extenuating circumstances.”
The results were scheduled to be announced at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Carillon Gardens, following election day on Wednesday. Allison Jennings, secretary of the CUSG Elections Board, informed the public that the winner of the presidential election would not be announced.
The two tickets in the running are Zach Freeman and Maya Khaskhely, and Eli Warnock and Ally Fields. 5,386 total students voted in the election, according to an email sent to the student body by CUSG.
The CUSG elections board added two new temporary rules to this election cycle as of Friday.
The campaign rules in the CUSG constitution previously stated that an “election referendum, special vote, or disqualification” can be appealed within “72 hours after the polls have closed.” However, this rule has been changed to “72 hours after the initial hearing.”
Another addition to the constitution was made, stating that if a disqualification appeal has occurred, the current standing student body president and vice president — in this case, Kellan Fenegan and André Moxie — will continue their term until the appeal has been resolved. If the appeal is approved, the winning candidate will take office immediately.
It is unclear when the final results will be announced.
However, 29 senators were elected across the Colleges of Architecture, Arts and Construction, Arts and Humanities, Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences, Business, Engineering and Science. Another 12 senators were elected across all four grade levels: freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.
