Former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey returned to the Tigers on Friday to join the 2025-26 roster. Godfrey spent last season with the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Clemson men’s basketball team added two transfers to join Nick Davidson on the 2025-26 roster, including one familiar face.
On Friday, forwards Carter Welling and RJ Godfrey announced their plans to transfer to Clemson. Welling spent last season at Utah Valley while Godfrey was with Georgia. Before transferring, Godfrey spent two seasons at Clemson as a significant benchpiece.
Welling entered the portal as a four-star player and No. 23 power forward, according to 247Sports. Averaging 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game with the Wolverines last season, the sophomore also won the honor of Defensive Player of the Year in the Western Athletic Conference.
A defensive anchor head coach Brad Brownell needed, the 6-foot-10 rising junior finished second in the conference in blocks, hitting 1.9 shots per game.
Meanwhile, Godfrey has been a highly regarded pickup since he entered the transfer portal after Georgia finished its season. Another four-star transfer, according to 247Sports, the rising senior averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
During his time with the Tigers in his sophomore season, Godfrey averaged similar numbers, scoring an average of 6.1 points per game and making big plays throughout the season.
One of Clemson’s only players remaining on the roster, Dillon Hunter, was in the same class as Godfrey, bringing back connections of years past.
Brownell is now rolling with the pickups and looks to continue adding quality acquisitions through the portal.
