Clemson basketball forward Ian Schieffelin has moved to the Clemson football team, granting him an extra year of eligibility.
Clemson tight end Ian Schieffelin was arrested this weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a report first published by TigerNet.
Schieffelin, who played four seasons for Clemson men’s basketball before transitioning to football this summer, was expected to contribute as a tight end this fall.
Clemson Athletics provided the following statement to The Tiger:
“We are aware of Ian Schieffelin’s arrest on suspicion of DUI. Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence. We’re obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.”
According to Clemson’s 2024-25 Student Athlete Handbook, a student-athlete arrested for or charged with a DUI must be withheld immediately from “not less than the next 10% of their intercollegiate (championship segment) competitions.” The handbook also allows the head coach, with review from the athletic director, to impose further sanctions if warranted.
Clemson Athletics has not released further details.
