Clemson forward Wahabu Musah scored the lone goal for the Tigers in Saturday's 1-1 draw.
The No. 2 Clemson United faced off against SMU in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday evening, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
The Tigers, 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the ACC, were looking to bounce back following their first loss of the season to Virginia Commonwealth University. Ultimately, the game ended in a draw following a scoreless second half.
SMU, 3-2-2, opened the scoring in the contest during the 20th minute with a goal from junior forward Mukisa Emmanuel off a pass from across the box. Emmanuel’s shot bounced off Clemson goalkeeper Joseph Andema’s chest and rolled into the bottom left corner of the net to take the early lead.
Just six minutes later, the Tigers responded with a goal of their own, as sophomore forward Wahabu Musah netted a header off a pass from Gabriel Santuari. Santuari set up the shot with a pass from outside the back left corner of the box, allowing Musah to jump in front of the defender to place the ball past the goalkeeper into the back left corner.
The goal marked Musah’s second consecutive game with a goal and his fourth of the season.
After quick scores from each team, neither was able to net another goal for the remainder of the match. SMU outshot Clemson 12-11, though the Tigers led in shots on goal, 7-3.
Clemson United will return to action on Tuesday when they host Queens at 6 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
