The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to No. 2 Notre Dame at Historic Riggs Field with a 5-1 score on Sunday evening.
The Fighting Irish upheld their reputation as one of the ACC’s top teams, remaining undefeated in the team’s first four matches of the season. On the other hand, Clemson, 3-4-5, 0-3-2 ACC, will still search for its first conference win of the season.
Notre Dame took the lead in the 29th minute of the first half with a penalty kick from Izzy Engle. Right before halftime in the 43rd minute, sophomore Ellie Hodsden scored to double the lead, making the match 2-0 with Clemson still trying to get its first goal.
After the half, the Fighting Irish continued to score. Goals by Engle, Grace Restovich and Paige Buchner put five total goals against the Tigers in the contest, which was the most against the team all season thus far.
Clemson was able to score in the 84th minute of the game on a free kick from Anna Castenfelt, her first goal of the season. It would be the only goal of the contest for the home side.
The Tigers’ next match will be at Syracuse, 4-5-4, 0-4-1 ACC, on Oct. 5. The game will kick off at 1 p.m.
