The Clemson Tigers complete their two-game road trip undefeated, beating the Boston College Eagles 41-10 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
The Clemson Tigers defeated the Boston College Eagles at Alumni Stadium on Saturday night, winning 41-10 to secure their second straight win.
This time, it was the Boston College Eagles who caught a glimpse of the Clemson many expected to see coming into this season. The Tigers, 3-3, 2-2 ACC, scored 34 points in the first half to go up early.
The Tigers took an early lead, advancing to 10-0 after two offensive possessions and defense forcing a 3-and-out. The game looked like it might be interesting after a 10-play, 75-yard drive by BC in the second quarter to change the score to 17-10, Clemson.
However, that hope for the Eagles, 1-5, 0-4 ACC, was short lived, as Clemson scored 17 unanswered points to end the half and enter the break up 34-10.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik had a solid outing through the air, finishing 22 of 30 for 280 yards and completing both a touchdown and an interception. The senior also recorded nine carries for 48 yards and a score.
Many receivers got in on the action, but Bryant Wesco Jr. was the one who stood out the most. He ended the game with five receptions, 106 yards and a touchdown.
Throughout the entire first half, Clemson’s offense didn’t seem to have any trouble pushing the ball downfield. However, just like last week against UNC, the offense went stagnant in the second half. On the first second-half offensive possession, Klubnik heavily underthrew to an open Adam Randall in the end zone, which BC picked off.
On the second drive of the half, Klubnik was shaken up after a quarterback draw play, and sat out the rest of the game with an ankle injury. Christopher Vizzina took his place, but threw an interception while the Tigers were in the red zone.
After looking a little shaky early on, the defense had an amazing performance, even forcing a second-half shutout. Early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers muffed a punt at their own 17-yard line, but the defense went right back out and got the ball back. Safety Ricardo Jones intercepted BC quarterback Shaker Reisig in the end zone to record one of two turnovers in the win.
The Tigers’ defense was led by linebacker Sammy Brown, who finished with seven total tackles and a sack, and defensive end Jahiem Lawson, who finished with four total tackles and two sacks.
Clemson finished its two-game road trip undefeated. The Tigers will now head back home and shift their sights toward a battle with the SMU Mustangs next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
