Canvas
Clemson's Canvas page is currently down due to issues involving Amazon Web Services.
Canvas, the well-known application used for schools, colleges and universities, went down after the Amazon Web Services outage on Monday.
Instructure, the company that owns Canvas, has released a timely, updated history of what happened to the Canvas website and app.
The first documented issue occurred at 3:04 a.m. EST, when Instructure began investigating the issue of Canvas being down. Twenty minutes later, it identified that the issue’s source is an AWS outage, with multiple different services having “operational issues.”
As of 4:24 p.m., Instructure was working alongside AWS, looking into getting Canvas, Mastery Connect and other Instructure applications online.
Clemson Computing and Information Technology services released a statement at 4:50 p.m. encouraging students to reach out to their instructors regarding information and details on assignment deadlines and communication methods.
“Many students have not been able to access their Canvas pages today,” according to the statement.
Amazon released a statement that it has resolved 38 services, but over 100 are still being impacted by these operational issues.
Instructure has collaborated with AWS since 2010, and the AWS Cloud holds all the information pertaining to Canvas.
The current status of when Canvas will resume working is unknown at this time.
