The Clemson Art Club collaborated with the Swift Society to make friendship bracelets, an example of their many nights with themed crafts.
Art provides a safe and personal outlet for our society, making it especially useful to students on a college campus.
Providing a sense of community for students interested in creative expression paves a pathway for them to channel their emotions into art while meeting other people with similar passions for artistic pursuits.
Clemson Art Club does exactly this by gathering once a week to focus on a different art medium for students to try out, suggesting the best way to go about the craft if there is a theme for the night, while also letting students follow their own imaginative undertaking.
“Art Club meets Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on the business building stairs, but people are free to come and go as they please,” Ariella Cicone, vice president of Clemson Art Club, told The Tiger in an interview. “We also typically have all the free supplies at the base of the stairs for anyone to grab.”
The club’s executive board not only wants student artists to feel welcome in an environment overflowing with originality, but they also want members to be proud of their endeavors. To make good on this promise, the club holds art exhibitions that showcase student work.
The overall mission of the club is focused on more than just being a place where those who are already skilled at art can practice their endeavors, considering the club is open to people without any knowledge at all. Being open to anyone who needs a sense of self-expression is a foundational tenet of the organization.
“Our aim is to make a space where people can have a break from classes or even just make some cute art decorations,” Cicone said. “We hope to create an environment where people can have fun with their friends or make new friends who share a love for art.”
The executive board of the Clemson Art Club also frequently partners with other on-campus organizations in order to establish a wider net of outreach for members to engage with.
“Clemson Art Club holds a yearly semi-formal at 356 Sushi Bar in downtown Clemson. It is typically in collaboration with various other clubs and has a different theme each year,” Cicone explained.
Becoming a member of Clemson’s Art Club is a way for students to take a pause from excessive school work while still engaging the brain in a manner of innovative individualism, opening the opportunity to be exposed to people of all creative fascinations.
“I joined Clemson Art Club when I was a freshman,” Lanie Deyo, president of Clemson Art Club, told The Tiger in an interview. “It was always a positive outlet for me to relax, take a brain break from schoolwork and form friendships.” Deyo says that the club’s biggest goal is to create a positive atmosphere where people can create whatever they dream up. “We make sure to greet every member with a smile and provide them with some art supplies.”
