While the Clemson area was only expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow, parts of Pickens County received between 4 to 7 inches over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
6.6 inches fell on nearby Liberty Sunday night, while Pickens received about 7 inches of snow.
In the area, Duke Energy reported almost 4,000 power outages affecting almost 120,000 customers across the Upstate on Sunday.
This level of snow approached record levels. Clemson University’s record snowfall was 10 inches in 1971, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
Clemson University closed completely on Monday, due to both weather and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Lingering ice caused classes to be delayed until noon on Tuesday and until 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
