For this week’s challenge, I went out of my comfort zone to try on products I’ve never used before. The products listed range from $5 to $36.
Day one: false eyelashes and nude lips
For day one, Eylure x Jordyn Woods false eyelashes and Sephora’s “Brunch Date” Lipstories lipstick were the looks of the day. The false eyelashes weren’t difficult to put on and did not need a lot of adjusting, which worked out well in the end. However, they tended to lose their stickiness and separate from my eyelids. The “Brunch Date” nude lipstick had a nice creamy matte texture but fell short in aesthetic because it was too gray for my skin tone.

Day two: powder foundation
For day two, Kat Von D’s Lock-it Powder Foundation was the challenge of the day. Applying the powder foundation was pretty easy since only a brush was required for application. The foundation does go on a little light at first but then matches skin tone after a while. While it’s supposed to be full coverage, the foundation is actually more of a medium coverage but is buildable. The foundation leaves a nice skin-like matte finish and stays in place pretty much all day. It also works nicely as a setting or finishing powder.
Powder foundation rate: 10/10
Day three: lip-plumping gloss
E.l.f’s lip-plumping gloss in “Pink Cosmic” is the real deal. Not only is the gloss very smooth to apply, it does a great job with adding plumpness. Also, the color payoff is magnificent! The only downside is that it tends to burn for a few minutes after application.
Gloss rate: 9/10
Day four: stick foundation
Flower Beauty’s Pore Perfect Instant Blur Stick + Multi-tasking Foundation was quite interesting to work with. The blur stick did a great job with blurring (and not clogging) my pores. However, the foundation was not the best. It goes on lighter than intended and oxidizes within a few minutes. The foundation left a nice airbrushed matte finish, but after a few hours it started to look messy and cakey—which is probably to be expected from a stick foundation.
Stick foundation rate: 6.5/10
Day five: cannabis-infused mascara
Milk Makeup’s Kush Mascara has been a hot commodity since early 2018. The mascara has cannabis seed oil in it and is supposed to make eyelashes fuller and longer while providing nourishment from the cannabis seed oil. Luckily, the mascara lives up to the expectation! The mascara did make my eyelashes look fuller and longer—it practically looked like I wore false eyelashes.
Mascara rate: 10/10
