There may not be a bigger turnaround in the country in women’s basketball this season than what Amanda Butler has done with the Lady Tigers. Butler will more than likely be up for ACC Coach of the Year, and potentially national coach of the year honors, and with good reason.

Clemson is currently 17-9 and 8-5 in ACC play following two wins last week, the first coming against No. 21 Florida State on Thursday, 73-68.

The Lady Tigers held the Seminoles to 38 percent shooting in the win. Clemson then had a quick turnaround to Boston College on Saturday where they defeated the Eagles 91-58. The 91 points the Tigers scored was the first time they’ve accomplished that feat since 2009, and it’s also the first time since 2009 that Clemson has won 8 games in conference play.

Clemson’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament look strong at this point, as long as they finish things off right, beginning with Georgia Tech on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before facing Virginia Tech at home on Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Men’s basketball continues to struggle in close games

Clemson’s men’s basketball NCAA tournament chances are looking slim to none at this point as we head into a new week as Selection Sunday is just four weeks away.

Clemson went on the road to Miami on Wednesday night, hoping to stake their claim for why they should be in the NCAA Tournament, but the game came down to the final seconds, similar to what happened in Raleigh against the Wolfpack back on January 26. Miami’s Zach Johnson hit the game-winning and Clemson fell 65-64.

The road didn’t get easier for Clemson as they headed up to Louisville on Saturday to take on the Cardinals, which could’ve been another good win after a crushing loss.

Saturday’s game was one where Louisville almost gave the game away as Marcquise Reed hit a three with just seconds remaining, cutting the Cards lead to just one point but a potential game-winning layup was blocked by Jordan Nwora as Louisville won 56-55.

Wednesday afternoon update (1 p.m.): Florida State completed a season sweep of Clemson, defeating the Tigers 77-64. This is the third straight loss for Brad Brownell’s group after winning four straight conference games. Clemson will look to end their skid as Boston College pays a visit on Saturday at noon.

• Clemson baseball defeated Charlotte 7-6 on Monday. Clemson’s game against Tenneseee Tech originally scheduled for today at 4 p.m. has been rescheduled for April 24 due to inclement weather. The Tigers will close the week (weather-permitting) with a 3-game series against VMI on Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
