William Reinert and Liza Lowder are running for undergraduate student body president and vice president. William is a junior political science major from Anderson, S.C., and Liza is a junior secondary education and English double major from Mayesville, S.C..
Both William and Liza have deep personal connections to Clemson that predate their time as students. When asked why they chose to run together, William shared that he felt a calling to serve the Clemson Family as the Student Body President, and he approached Liza to ask her to join him because of her long record of dedicated service to Clemson.
Liza said that although she had not previously thought about running for Student Body Vice President, when William came to her with his ideas and his clear desire to make Clemson an even better place, she knew she had to join the ticket. The pair are good friends, and they admire one another’s dedication, work ethic and commitment to the mission and vision of Clemson.
William and Liza are adamant that they are not running for themselves; rather, they are running to “serve, empower, and advocate” for every student who attends Clemson. William and Liza said that their vision and intention is for students to feel seen and heard through their platform which is exemplified in the campaign slogan, “It’s About You!”
William shared that his favorite component of their platform is the section titled “Empowering the Clemson Family.” William explained that as he and Liza put together this section of the platform, their primary focus was listening to the voices, concerns and visions of other students. Their hope is to lead Clemson to a higher standard of “unconditional love and support” for all people in the Clemson Family and to reflect the concerns and desires of everyone they represent.
For Liza, the most important piece of their campaign platform is found within the Mental Health section. William and Liza plan to advocate for outsourcing mental health care by introducing resources like “Listeners on Call” and other external psychiatrists when CAPS is overwhelmed on campus. They want to ensure that every student who needs mental health support has access to support structures and resources immediately.
William and Liza think that people should vote for them because of their commitment to representation and service. They explained that a vote for their ticket is “a vote for yourself” as a Clemson student. William and Liza share the hope that their names on the ballot would be a reflection of your own name, their platform would be a reflection of your concerns and dreams and their voice would be a reflection of your own because “truly, it’s not about us, it’s about you.”
