The Clemson Tigers dropped out of the Week 6 AP Poll ranking following their 19-13 win over Boston College.
Being unranked is something Clemson is not used to. This shift marks the first time Clemson has not been ranked in the AP Poll since Week 13 of the 2014 season.
Clemson’s narrative all season has been their success on defense being shadowed by their struggles on offense. This continued into the rankings this week. Clemson is only averaging 21.2 points per game, ranking them 108th out of 130 FBS schools. They rank fourth in scoring defense, allowing only 12.2 points per game.
Clemson has the championship caliber defense that a top-ranked team would expect but the offense is nowhere near that level — something Clemson has not seen in years.
It may seem surprising to see Clemson drop in the rankings following a win, but the Tigers not winning in a dominant fashion and having games come down to the final play is very compelling to the AP voters.
Clemson will travel to Syracuse next Friday at 7 p.m., where the Tigers will look to put together a complete performance and work their way back into the rankings.
