Most college students returned to campus these past few weeks, only to find themselves unsure of what to join — specifically with sports and extracurricular activities. Although juggling an academic schedule and social life can be incredibly challenging, Clemson offers various sport intramural teams to allow students to interact socially, while working out physically.
The question is: how can you get involved in recreational sport intramurals? The only requirement is finding a team and finding what works best with your schedule. The fall options available are basketball, flag football, indoor soccer, Kan Jam, kickball, spike ball and volleyball.
Sign-ups are beginning to open for most sport teams now and will remain open through mid-November, which creates flexibility and allows some time for students to create their own teams.
One of the most popular questions revolves around each player’s individual talent and ability to play the specific sport, but any experience level is welcome and encouraged for intramural sports.
Getting involved in any intramural sport starts with forming a team, registering online and setting up practice times to play games and compete. The fall season sports listed above are only a few options of what can be played throughout the year, but each sport is played by season (either fall or spring).
To register for an intramural spot on a team, go online to the Department of Campus Recreation, pick which sport you are interested in and find some friends or teammates that are willing to meet semi-weekly for practices and games. Reach out through clubs, classes or even to neighbors in apartments or dorms to form teams; teams may have up to five, or even 17 players, depending on the game and rules.
Despite coming back in-person, masks are required within all university facilities, along with the suggestion and encouragement of social distancing during sporting events and games. Currently, according to campus guidelines, sports intramurals will continue to operate in-person and foster a community for students to come together in teamwork and competition.
