The Clemson softball program hit another milestone this week as the Tigers hosted their first opponent inside Clemson Softball Stadium.

Clemson hosted Western Carolina in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers dropped the first game against the Catamounts, 2-0. But, Clemson returned strong in game two, defeating Western Carolina 8-0 in five innings.

The Tigers got two strong outings from each of their two starting pitchers in freshman Valerie Cagle and redshirt freshman Logan Caymol. Cagle threw seven innings in game one, allowing four hits and two runs with five strikeouts. Cagle also homered in Clemson’s game two win.

Game two featured a dominant performance from redshirt freshman Logan Caymol, who threw the program’s first no-hitter. Caymol finished with 5.0 innings of work, striking out 11 batters while only facing one batter over the minimum. Caymol improved to 2-1 on the season.

After a sluggish opening game on the offensive end, Clemson’s bats came alive in game two. Cagle’s two-run homer broke open the game in the first inning. The Tigers then scored two more in the fourth inning on a passed ball and an RBI triple from redshirt freshman JoJo Hyatt. Clemson would score four more runs to cut the game short in the fifth inning.

Redshirt junior Cammy Pereira had a phenomenal day at the plate, racking up four hits on the day, including three in game two. The second baseman also had an RBI and scored a run in the Tigers’ game two win.

Turning ahead to this weekend, Clemson (3-4, 0-0 ACC) will host the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Clemson Softball Stadium. The Tigers will play Maryland on Friday and Saturday afternoon before playing Michigan State Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. The tournament will also feature Pittsburgh, who will face off against the Terrapins and Spartans.
