Highway 93 will soon be reduced to one lane, Clemson University officials announced Wednesday.
Beginning Saturday, May 12, only one lane of Highway 93 will be open for travel. This will affect the portion of Highway 93 between Cherry Road and Sherman Road, and traffic will travel westbound towards Seneca. The closure is expected to be in effect through Sunday, August 12.
Drivers heading east along Highway 93 will be detoured onto College Avenue. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto Cherry Road.
University officials say the closure will expand further along Highway 93 as construction progresses. Drivers should watch for road signs signaling the changes and should expect additional closures this summer. Officials say timeframes are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
Drivers are being urged to use Perimeter Road in order to travel to and around campus.
Those who need to travel to downtown Clemson should use Highway 123.
This latest lane closure is part of continued construction along Highway 93 to upgrade the university’s electrical infrastructure and chilled water lines.
The Tiger will post updates about road closures on its website and social media channels as they are received.
Updates will also be posted on the Clemson University Facilities blog.
Information regarding CATbus detours can be found on the CATbus Facebook page and Twitter.
