Football returns to Death Valley today as the No. 2 Ranked Clemson Tigers take on the Furman University Paladins. Though the teams are close geographically, Clemson fields a far superior team this year as they make another push for a playoff berth.
Kelly Bryant, last year’s starting quarterback, was again named the starter this year following the end of fall camp. Freshman Trevor Lawrence pushed Bryant hard in camp, but the senior ultimately won out.
Clemson’s history is pretty good against Furman. In fact, the Tigers haven’t lost to the Paladins since a 0-0 tie in 1937. Since then, the Tigers have won 30 straight games.
Coach Dabo Swinney will likely rotate in some of the younger players and backups to give them exposure before next week’s game in College Station.
This is also the first season in over 30 years to not feature the release of balloons when the players run down the hill. It was scrapped due to environmental complications.
