Clemson is constantly changing, and The Tiger is no different.
This semester, The Tiger is cutting back to bi-weekly print editions, meaning we’ll be putting out an issue every other Monday.
By cutting back on print, we will be able to focus more on our digital presence as our readers increasingly opt to read our stories online. We want to make sure that you have access to Clemson related news as it happens, and this change will allow us to do just that.
But there are some other changes coming, too: We’ve recently put together a creative content team, to focus on the design and creation of digital content for The Tiger. They will be working alongside our editors and reporters, guiding them on the best ways to report stories online. If you’re a Clemson student interested in joining the creative content team, please reach out! We’d love to have you involved.
And, unfortunately, like many newspapers across the United States, our financial situation isn’t great. This cut is one of many ways we’re trying to make it better.
By reducing the number of print issues, The Tiger will save roughly $6,000 in printing-related costs over the semester. These savings will allow for better support and training of the young journalists in our newsroom, enabling us to purchase new equipment, provide professional development opportunities for our staff and send our reporters to cover away games.
The Tiger recognizes that digital, hyperlocal journalism is the face of the future, and that’s what we’re going to prioritize as we train the next generation of journalists, communicators and storytellers.
We’ve been roaring for Clemson since 1907, and we’re not stopping anytime soon. We’re just roaring in a new way.
