It’s going to take a bit longer for Tiger fans to enter Clemson’s Memorial Stadium on game days this fall.
The university announced on Wednesday that it is implementing a metal detector pilot program for the 2018 season.
According to a media release, select gates will have walk-thru metal detectors stationed outside of the stadium. Officials say that the selected gates will rotate throughout the season.
Fans will be required to remove keys, cell phones, cameras and other electronic devices from their pockets prior to walking through the metal detectors. Shoes, coins, wallets, belts and jewelry will not need to be removed, according to university officials.
The university says that fans who have a medical condition or do not feel comfortable walking through the metal detectors should notify event staff and will participate in an alternative screening process.
As a reminder, the clear bag policy is still in effect. The policy can be viewed here.
In a media release, the university said that Clemson Athletics, in conjunction with the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD), is implementing the metal detectors to improve security and “ensure that Memorial Stadium is the safest possible venue for fans during the 2018 season and beyond.”
Clemson’s first home football game of the season is on Sept. 1.
