The Clemson women’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Florida State Seminoles In the ACC Championship in Cary, North Carolina, on Sunday.
The Seminoles scored twice during the match. Their first goal came early in the 7th minute, and they added a second goal in the 57th minute. The second goal sealed the victory for the Seminoles, as Clemson was unable to find the back of the net in the second half.
Clemson secured its lone goal of the game in the 29th minute on a corner kick taken by midfielder Dani Davis. Davis lifted the ball into the center of the box, where defender Mackenzie Duff drove a header into the bottom left corner of the net. This goal leveled the score at one goal apiece midway through the first half. Nevertheless, the Seminoles’ second goal of the day ultimately sent the Tigers home without a trophy.
Despite the loss, head coach Eddie Radwanski was “super proud” of how his team competed today.
“We left everything on the field,” Radwanski said. “Unfortunately, a mistake happened. We conceded, but it didn’t stop our resolve. We kept trying to go for it.”
The Tigers must now await the announcement of their position in the women’s NCAA Championship bracket. This position will determine their path to the championship.
“They show that they’re a team that could compete for a national championship,” Radwanksi noted. “That’s the next thing that comes up. This was the phase of trying to win the ACC Championship, and now, starting tomorrow, it’ll be alright. Next phase is the NCAA Tournament.”
The selection show is scheduled for Monday at 4 p.m. The first round of the tournament is set to kick off on Friday, Nov. 10.
