Following Clemson football’s 16-7 win over South Carolina last Saturday, The Tiger asked Clemson students about the rivalry victory.
How does it feel to have the trophy back in Clemson?
I am so happy to have watched the game from home. The touchdown by the defense right away was super exciting, and I am glad we were able to extend our lead through the three following field goals. I love being a part of Clemson University, and I am super happy that we won our trophy back. It is back where it belongs, and that is where it will stay!

What are some things you think Clemson did well and things they could improve?
Unfortunately, I thought we would go into this game playing a lot better than we did. I thought, based on our coaches and staffing, that our playcalling was pretty subpar, back to the screen passing, which isn’t great playcalling on third. I thought pressure by the defense was really strong and our defense made great plays as they have been all year. However, our offense could not pick up the pace with them.
The atmosphere was great, and I thought the Tigers really showed out based on the circumstances. That was a pretty rigorous place for us to walk into, considering they are our biggest rival, but there was a lot of electricity and energy coming from our fans. The vibes were great, and I had a very good time with friends and family. Great win, but Clemson has got to pick it up even with the success.

How did it feel throughout the game and after Clemson won?
I knew we were going to win from the very beginning after the fumble return touchdown. I’ve learned from Madden and watching Clemson that turnover differential is a stat that wins the games. To be honest, I felt bad for the South Carolina fans. My dad’s a South Carolina fan, and it felt kind of like watching a kid realize he’s never gonna be an astronaut. That is too bad for them, and the trophy is back where it belongs. Go Tigers!
