The Clemson women’s gymnastics team will compete in its first-ever competition season at Littlejohn Coliseum when the Tigers host William & Mary on Friday.
Led by head coach Amy Smith, the program’s addition to the ACC marks this spring as the inaugural season for the conference as a whole.
Smith was hired as head coach in April of 2022, bringing in six transfer athletes from Utah State, where she previously coached. Since then, the team has signed 12 new gymnasts and added two coaches to the roster. Gymnasts Rebecca Wells, Lauren Rutherford and Lilly Lippeatt have been marked on preseason watch lists and are expected to compete on Friday.
Clemson is now ranked third out of the four ACC teams in preseason rankings. North Carolina takes first in the conference, followed by NC State, with Pittsburgh listed in the fourth slot. In the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics rankings, Clemson stands at No. 35 overall.
William & Mary began competing in Division I in 1986, making the program an established and experienced match for the young Clemson program. Events for the meet will include floor, vault, beam, bars and all-around categories.
The meet will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday. Clemson will then start ACC competition when it hosts Pittsburgh on Jan. 21.
