Broadway sensation “Come From Away” is coming to Clemson. The Tony Award-winning show will be performing at the Brooks Center on Friday, Jan. 19, during a tour around the country.

“Come From Away” is a moving story following the events in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Set in the town of Gander on Canada’s island of Newfoundland, also known as “The Rock,” the show features a myriad of star-studded cast members who weave their unique stories together to form life-long bonds.

Cast member Addison Garner is living out the dream of many Broadway fans — acting in a show she herself has been a fan of for years. Garner had always loved the message the show was spreading, one of hope. She knew it would be an important show and one she wanted to be a part of.

“While it touches on some of the hardest days in our history, it reminds people that good can come from evil and there is still hope in the goodness of humanity,” Garner told The Tiger.

For Garner, this type of character portrayal is something new to her. The actress is playing the role of Beverley Bass, a pilot. It’s been an empowering experience that has brought her new artistic growth as she has never portrayed a real person before.

While it is an honor to tell someone’s personal story, it brings about its own challenges. The events reenacted were experienced in real life and were very emotional for all involved. It was important to Garner that she kept the integrity of the true events intact and conveyed that intensity.

“While it has been one of the most challenging roles I have ever had, it has by far been the most rewarding. Getting to tell this story and see the impact it has on all of its audiences never gets old and brings new life night after night.”
