The Clemson women’s basketball team (8-10, 1-5 ACC) will take on the No. 14 Virginia Tech Hokies (13-4, 4-2 ACC) this Sunday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The Tigers are coming off a tough stretch of games, as they fell on Thursday 64-81 against No. 13 Louisville at home and extended their losing streak to five. However, head coach Amanda Butler and the Tigers are hopeful to snap it against a good Virginia Tech team.
Bright spots for the Clemson team include the recent play of Dayshanette Harris and Amari Robinson. Harris, a graduate guard, finished her last game with a season-high 25 points along with a team-high seven assists. She’ll enter the game second in scoring and leading the Tigers in assists and steals.
Robinson, a graduate forward, has been a leader on the team all season and looks to continue her recent success against the Hokies. In her last five games, she’s averaged 20 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 58% from the field.
The Tigers have struggled on the road and against ranked teams so far this season, being 0-5 in true road games as well as 0-5 against teams ranked in the top 25. Sunday’s game has the opportunity to turn the season around and give momentum to the Tigers in the middle of ACC play.
Virginia Tech, despite its ranking, has struggled recently as well. The Hokies lost their previous two, including a 17-point loss in their last game against Duke. Before the back-to-back losses, the Hokies won 12 of their previous 13, showing that they have all the potential to get hot and beat anyone.
Leading Virginia Tech will be seniors Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore. Kitley, a 6-foot-6 center, currently averages 21.9 points and 11.4 rebounds, both top 15 in the country. Amoore, a 5-foot-6 point guard, compliments Kitley’s game well as she averages 16.4 points and is in the top three in the country in assists, averaging seven per game.
Tipoff is set for noon on Sunday at Cassell Coliseum, and the game will broadcast on the CW Network.
