Hey y’all! My name is Grace O’Donnell, and I am the current Sports Editor at The Tiger. I’ve been in this position for almost a year and have been with the newspaper for almost three years.
I joined The Tiger my very first week of freshman year, back in August 2021. Being from a small town in New Jersey, I didn’t know much about anyone or anything related to Clemson besides what was posted on social media.
What I did know was that I was looking for a school with lots of spirit and an involved student body. Walking through the door of Hendrix 311 — our office — for the first time, I knew I made the right choice not to nap through the interest meeting.
I came to Clemson as a mathematical sciences major with a sports communication minor, but I have always loved writing. I joined The Tiger so that I could still write freely (funny enough, the math curriculum was not creative writing heavy) with an initial career goal of working in statistics for the NFL. While sitting in my third calculus class one day during my sophomore year doing triple integrals, I realized — why am I doing this?
Two weeks later, I changed my major to sports communication, something I had been wanting to do since covering my first football game against Florida State in October of my freshman year. I remember sitting in the press box and thinking to myself that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I couldn’t be happier to be in the position I am in.
I love everything about The Tiger, especially the people. I have loved watching all the writers grow their confidence and the sports section grow from four people to over 20. I could not imagine a different or better group to define my college years!
