Head coach Mike Noonan and the Clemson men’s soccer team are back in business following their historic championship season with the announcement of their spring schedule for 2024. The Tigers will begin with a three-game homestand at Historic Riggs Field, followed by two on the road.
Starting this Saturday at 2 p.m., Clemson will take on an NC State team that managed to tie the National Champions 1-1 last October. In that matchup, the Tigers’ sole goal came from Mohamed Seye, who departed the team for the Greenville Triumph earlier this year.
Following this game, the Duke Blue Devils will test their luck at Historic Riggs Field on March 2. This will be the first time these two teams have met since the Tigers’ dramatic win in penalty kicks during the ACC Tournament last November that ended Duke’s season, and it will be a great early test for Noonan’s squad.
Considering that much of Clemson’s offensive firepower, including Ousmane Sylla, Nathan Richmond, and Brandon Parrish, has departed for the major leagues, the squad’s scoring abilities will look much different than in years past.
Soon after, on March 5, Clemson will host Charlotte’s Crown Legacy FC to round out its home spring schedule.
In April, the Tigers will hit the road to face the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg, Virginia, to conclude their regular spring season. Clemson will also travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to compete in the annual Spring Soccer Cup hosted by Wake Forest as one of 10 collegiate men’s premier soccer programs invited to the event.
This will be a great final test for the Tigers as they continue to work until their first regular season game next August.
There are still months ahead before the 2024 season commences for Noonan and the Tigers, but this spring serves as the beginning of an exciting new team in hopes that it can be of back-to-back National Champions and tacking on their fifth banner in program history.
