Friday’s senior night for Clemson gymnastics did not disappoint for the Tigers as they roared past Air Force 197.600 to 194.650, setting a new program record for total points scored in one meet. This record was set just two weeks after the previous record, 197.350, came over North Carolina.
In addition to setting a new point record, the Tigers had five gymnasts set or tie career-high scores in their events.
Sophomore Brie Clark earned a 9.925 to set a new career-high on beam, followed by a 9.950 on floor to simultaneously tie her career-high and earn the top floor routine of the night.
Redshirt senior Rebecca Wells had herself a night as well, tying her career-high on vault with a score of 9.900 to lead the meet. She scored a career-high 9.950 on beam and also led both teams and secured her the top all-around performance of the meet.
Freshman Trinity Webb earned her career-high on bars with a score of 9.900, and redshirt junior Eve Jackson tied her career-high for the same event with a matching score.
No one had a better night than Kaitlin DeGuzman, the Tigers’ lone senior. After tying her career-high on bars with a score of 9.925 and earning the top performance on bars for the meet, a ceremony honored DeGuzman as the only graduating gymnast this season.
Head coach Amy Smith and the rest of the coaching staff put together a short video describing DeGuzman and her impact on Clemson’s gymnastics program as the final piece to building Team 1.
The magical number for Team 1 seems to be 8,631, as this was the fourth consecutive home meet that has been sold out. Clemson gymnastics has seen 42,542 fans in Littlejohn Coliseum this season, ranking seventh in the nation for total attendance as the Tigers finished with four wins and one loss while defending Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tigers will look to finish the regular season strong as they head to Los Angeles to compete against Smith’s alma mater, UCLA, on Saturday, March 16, at 5 p.m.
