For the second year in a row, Clemson’s Sexuality & Gender Alliance and the Sexuality & Gender Engagement Committee are partnering with WSBF-FM Clemson for their Pride Kickoff. With live music and food trucks at Clemson’s amphitheater, the event will celebrate Pride entering the month of April.
North and South Carolina bands Secret Shame, Peach Rings, Newgrounds Death Rugby and Pagan Rage will be performing in the amphitheater throughout the night. While Newgrounds Death Rugby performed at WSBF’s 2023 Shark Weekend concert, the other two bands will be performing at Clemson for the first time.
Entry to the event is free, and attendees can buy food and other products from a variety of food trucks and vendors. Representatives from various queer and ally organizations on campus will also be present at the event.
Since Clemson students are on summer break by the time Pride month begins in June, Clemson SAGA and SAGE celebrate during the month of April. This year’s Pride kickoff will benefit Clemson’s LGBTQ+ Alumni Council, with proceeds going to their scholarship fund. The scholarship is awarded each year to one Clemson student in the LGBTQ+ community who is making strides in growing awareness and promoting LGBTQ+ communities on campus.
“WSBF is excited for our second annual collaboration with Clemson SAGA,” WSBF music director Thomas Williams, a senior political science major, said in an interview with The Tiger. “This project has been in the works for a while, and we’re very proud to be supporting this great cause.”
For those interested in attending, Pride Kickoff will be from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 6.
