Alcoholic Beverage Licensing notice signs were posted outside of the Douthit Community Hub and Schilletter Dining Hall the week of April 14.
Both facilities have applied for an on-premise license for the sale of beer and wine, according to the notices.
The Tiger reached out to University Housing and Dining to inquire about the notices posted.
Joe Galbraith, Associate Vice President of Communications, noted that these licenses are put in place to hold alcoholic beverages within the buildings for Aramark’s use in catering events, not for sale in dining locations for students.
“The University, and its contracted vendor Aramark, is required to provide public notice as part of an approval process for alcohol licenses for catering and special events at these and other campus locations,” Galbraith told The Tiger in an email.
As of right now, there are no plans for retail sale of any alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine, at the on-campus locations of Schilletter Dining Hall or Douthit Community Hub.
Aramark Educational Services LLC, the University’s exclusive food services provider, is listed as the corporation applying.
Aramark’s contract extends to the service of all food and beverages on campus as well as on-campus catering services.
These notices were not found outside of McAlister Dining Hall or any other on-campus food service locations.
Aramark did not directly respond to comment about the situation.
