The Board of Trustees Compensation Committee officially approved Doug Hallenbeck as the new vice president for student affairs at Clemson University on Thursday.
Hallenbeck will be replacing the former vice president for student affairs, Chris Miller, following his decision to step down in March 2024. Miller’s time at Clemson saw him earn the University’s No. 1 rankings in both career services and improved student life.
Previously, Hallenbeck held the position of vice president for student affairs at Oklahoma State University from 2019-2024. During his time there, he assisted with crisis management during the COVID-19 pandemic, chaired committees and helped improve both student retention and graduation rates.
Before his time at Oklahoma State, Hallenbeck worked at Clemson for 12 years, working with both student affairs and as the executive director of housing and dining. He was one of the driving forces behind improvements to student facilities, including Core Campus and Douthit Hills.
“All of the candidates were beyond qualified, but I am excited for Dr. Hallenbeck and can’t wait to see what more he does for our University! He’s previously done some great work for Clemson and is ready to listen to the needs and wants of the student population while taking on this new position,” Brianna Motko, Academic Affairs Chair for the Student Senate told The Tiger.
His new duties will begin this fall, with Hallenbeck leading student affairs and assisting students in reaching their goals beyond the classroom.
