The Clemson women’s club lacrosse team and men’s club ice hockey team will face consequences this semester for a property damage incident that occurred last December at an Airbnb in Tellico Plains, Tennessee.
The women’s club lacrosse team is “placed on disciplinary probation under Section IX A. 4 of the Code effective immediately until the end of the Fall 2024 Semester,” according to the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act report published by the University earlier this summer. The club is also placed on social probation and “may not host any events in which alcohol is available” until the end of the semester.
Additionally, the men’s club ice hockey team initially faced a “Suspension of Organizational Registration through the end of Spring 2025 semester,” meaning the club was suspended from participating in the entire 2024-2025 season.
However, the team made restitution to the women’s club lacrosse team for its participation in the damages and instead will be allowed to resume its season starting in the spring 2025 semester.
The teams “participated in causing … damage to a very large and expensive Airbnb house in Tellico Plains over the weekend of December 2, 2023,” leading to disciplinary action.
Upon termination of these suspensions, both teams will send their current presidents, social chairs and financial officers to “meet with Center for Student Leadership and Engagement (CSLE) staff members” to “develop a plan to ensure risk management strategies are in place, to ensure understanding of financial policies related to Independent Student Organizations (ISO), and to discuss any further information deemed pertinent by CSLE.”
