As Clemson volleyball gears up for its opening exhibition against Georgia on Aug. 24, exciting additions to both the team and organization mean the Tigers have a big year ahead of them.
One of the most notable changes for the program was the renovation of its home, Jervey Gym. Jervey Gym was originally built in 1973 and had previously undergone renovation in 1995, but it was high time for another.
The roof was raised, a new locker room constructed, a lounge and upgraded meeting space built and more, all incorporated into the 50,000-square-foot space. Jervey is also home to Clemson’s sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition and applied science departments. The project was estimated to have cost $50 million and is ready for use in the 2024-2025 season.
To kick off the new season, the Tigers will host their annual orange and purple scrimmage on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. in Jervey Gym before heading to Athens for their exhibition match against the Bulldogs. Their season ramps up quickly as they next travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for a three-game series from Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
With a 31-game season ahead of them, the Tigers will next return to Clemson for their home opener on Sept. 19 to take on Kennesaw State.
The Tigers return several strong veterans: sophomore Kennedy Wagner and senior Aźyah Dailey, two pin attackers with strong stats from last season, and in the back row, expect to see senior libero Devan Taylor making plays.
In addition to the experienced players, Clemson volleyball brought in five freshmen for the No. 38 recruiting class. One middle blocker: Taylor Bahnub out of Dublin, Ohio; two outside attackers: Lejla Sara Hadžiredžepović from Reykjavík, Iceland, and Neea-Maria Joki from Tampere, Finland; two liberos/defensive specialists: Claire Luoma coming from Franklin, Wisconsin, and Addi Rains from Yorktown, Indiana.
The Clemson volleyball team is led by head coach Jackie Simpson Kirr and her 22-woman roster. All home games in Jervey Gym will be free admission to the general public.
