“What are some common mistakes students make that I can avoid this semester?”
Great question! There are a couple of mistakes that many students make that are easy to avoid with some small changes to your daily routine.
First off, if you are driving to campus, be sure to arrive with plenty of time to spare. During busy times on campus, it will be difficult to find parking. More often than not, finding parking proves to be an ordeal that takes more time than you anticipate. Be sure to build in some time for finding parking into your commute.
If you are in for a long day on campus, pack snacks and meals from home, rather than finding food around campus. P.O.D. Markets and food on campus can become expensive quickly, so come prepared.
Put in the extra effort to participate in class. Sitting at the front of the classroom or attending office hours can seem intimidating, but it will help you out in the long run. Keeping up with attendance and meaningful participation builds a good relationship with professors. This relationship will make professors more understanding when you need help later on down the road.
Lastly, don’t make the library your go-to study spot. There are so many beautiful buildings and scenes around campus, take the chance to work in each of them and avoid the crowds in the library. The library is a great resource, but it pays off to change your surroundings once in a while!
