“How do I keep up motivation in school throughout the semester?”
I’m sure that many others are wrestling with this question at the moment, and as the semester begins, the weight of it all can feel particularly overwhelming.
My best advice is to curate a weekly schedule best suited for you and stick to it religiously. With no set schedule and plans for balancing work and play, it can be challenging to force yourself to work. Putting yourself in a proper routine will set you up for success.
For example, if you don’t have class on Mondays until 1 p.m., instead of sleeping in until noon and forcing yourself to work into the night, arrive at campus earlier or try out a new coffee shop and set aside time dedicated to schoolwork each day.
Maximize your time on campus. If you have breaks between classes, use the time to continue the day’s momentum and work on your school tasks. If you are already on campus for class, don’t rush back home. Take an extra hour in your favorite study spot and do one assignment or reading for a class.
Schedule time in your day to step away from books, as well as time in your day devoted to studying. Dedicate one part of your day when you know you can hang out with friends, take a walk or relax at home without guilt or stress.
Having dedicated time to complete your work, go to class and manage your personal life will help keep you motivated. The correct balance between these things worked into your schedule will keep you accountable and organized, fitting in both your responsibilities and interests.
Knowing that you can balance both in a set schedule will motivate you to follow through and help you achieve more throughout your day.
