Downtown Clemson’s Pot Belly Deli will be relocating after serving the community at its current location for 30 years.
The new property will relocate to 373 Old Greenville Highway. The lot has a previously empty building that Pot Belly Deli plans to convert into a restaurant to serve its needs. The new location will feature more space for indoor dining, outdoor seating and green space. The deli’s relocation will also allow for easier access for customers and offer more parking and visibility.
Another element of the new location is a much larger kitchen, which Pot Belly Deli plans to use to accommodate tailgating and catering orders, helping to expand its already growing business and better support the demand.
“We felt the sale of the property gave us the perfect opportunity to move Pot Belly Deli to a more convenient location, one that has better visibility, access and, most importantly, more space to accommodate our loyal customer base of students and locals alike,” Matthew Morton, vice president of Alterman Commercial Real Estate, told The Tiger in an email. Alterman is the company behind the Pot Belly Deli relocation project.
Pot Belly Deli is growing along with the restaurant’s pride in serving Tigers and the Clemson community.
“PBD is proud to be Clemson’s very own neighborhood deli since 1994. We are owned and operated by a Clemson alum who is dedicated to preserving the legacy that is PBD: providing a comfortable atmosphere with a laid-back approach for students and locals alike,” Morton told The Tiger.
Pot Belly Deli is also moving because its existing property on Wall Street in downtown Clemson has been acquired by Core Spaces. The property will be used in the upcoming The Hub Clemson project, an over 1,300-bed student housing complex, according to Morton.
The deli’s relocation undertaking will cost upward of $1.5 million for the new site and all of the construction work, according to Morton. During this time, Pot Belly Deli is asking for the support of its loyal local community.
“We are not a national chain. Our sole objective is to provide delicious food at great price to our extended Clemson family. We have employed countless Clemson students over the years, and are proud to provide this opportunity to them.”
“It has been our honor to be Clemson’s neighborhood deli for the past 30 years, and the loyalty the community has shown has been extraordinary. Likewise, we are loyal to the Clemson community and the student base of Clemson University, which is one of the main reasons why we have committed to a new bigger and better location for Pot Belly Deli, where we hope to serve Clemson for the next 30 years.”
The deli plans to tentatively open the doors of its new location in February 2025. The final day that Pot Belly Deli will be open at the downtown Clemson location is Nov. 3.
