Residents at The Farm apartment complex in Clemson woke up to gunshots fired outside their homes in the early hours of Sept. 22.
At approximately 4 a.m., city police received numerous calls regarding gunshots near Old Central Road and Lindsay Road. At around 11 a.m. the same day, residents at the Farm reported various bullet holes in two apartments at the complex.
“Officers responded and didn’t locate any witnesses or involved subjects,” Matt Culbreath, Clemson city police captain, told The Tiger in an email.
“Around 4:30 (a.m.), we woke up to eight gunshots that sounded like a machine gun, like they were really quick. Right away, I just kind of froze,” A resident at The Farm told The Tiger in a phone interview. “My house genuinely vibrated, so I genuinely thought someone’s either trying to beat down my door or someone just shot at my house.”
The resident then told The Tiger that they called the city police department to inform them of the situation.
“They were just kind of short with me and just said like, ‘We’ve gotten a few calls about this, so we have police officers in the area.’ And then, about 40 minutes later, I still hadn’t seen any cop lights. I was kind of too scared to move from my bed, but no cop lights,” the resident told The Tiger.
The resident called again 40 minutes later, asking for an update. The phone operator connected the resident to an officer, who told the resident that officers were responding to the area but did not have any new information.
According to Capt. Culbreath, city police officers further examined the area at about 11 a.m. on Sunday and detected evidence of multiple gunshots that were fired.
“Me and my roommates were kind of doing loops around The Farm, trying to see if we could talk to anyone,” the resident told The Tiger.
“I tried to contact the police department a few more times, and they told me they couldn’t tell me anything because there hadn’t been a press release. We haven’t seen anything online about it except for The Farm releasing a statement just saying there’s going to be increased patrolling.”
“At this time there is no indication that anyone living at the Farm was targeted and this was a random act of violence,” Captain Culbreath told The Tiger.
