The ACC released its yearly men’s soccer season awards on Wednesday, Nov. 13, and the Tigers received six awards and multiple All-ACC team recognitions.
Most notably, midfielder Joran Gerbet earned midfielder of the year honors along with his first-team all-ACC honors, which is his second consecutive All-ACC team appearance. Gerbet earned a third-team All-ACC spot a season ago.
The Valence, France, native has substantially impacted the Tigers’ season thus far. He leads the team in assists, with eight this season, and is second on the team in points, recording 22. Gerbet’s midfielder of the year honor is only the second in Clemson history, with the last Tiger earning it being Paul Clowes in 2019.
Along with Gerbet, forward Alex Meinhard earned first-team All-ACC honors for the first time. Meinhard is first in scoring for the Tigers by a slim margin with 23 and first in goals with 11. Meinhard ranks among the elite in collegiate soccer, standing at No. 3 for career goals with 47 and No. 2 for career points with 109 among all active Division I players.
Ransford Gyan has been on fire in his first collegiate season, earning second-team All-ACC honors to complement his freshman of the year award in the campaign, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists. The Ghana standout was named to the all-freshman team and ranked No. 5 on the prestigious Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list.
Gyan’s stellar performance throughout the season makes him an essential piece for Clemson in years to come. He is the Tigers’ first freshman of the year since Philip Mayaka in 2019 and just the fourth in program history.
The freshman continued his stellar start to his collegiate career on Thursday night, scoring the game-winning goal in Clemson’s win over Cal in the ACC tournament semifinals in Cary, North Carolina.
Lukas Magnason and Wahabu Musah are two other notable names and core to the Tigers’ future as they join Gyan on the ACC all-freshman team. Musah and Magnason both ranked in the Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list, along with Gyan. Musah came in at No. 83 and Magnason at No. 28. This trio of Tigers allows Clemson fans to be national championship hopefuls for years to come.
Magnason has been a consistent starter among the Tigers’ young defensive line, starting in 17 of a total 19 games played this season. Musah caught some eyes in the team’s semifinal win in the ACC tournament as well, dishing two of the three assists in the contest.
