The women’s squad was fueled by the endurance of its own “big three,” with Silvia Jelelgo, Judy Kosgei and Gladys Chepngetich. Aside from placing in the top 10, the time distance between each runner was minimal. Between Jelelgo and Chepngetich was only 33.6 seconds, and between Kosgei and Chepngetich, the difference was only 16.4 seconds.
Despite the men’s team not seeing the same elite success as the women’s team, they still performed at a high level. Sawyer Dagan was the leader for the Tigers, placing 16th with a 30:19.4 time.
The main goal of this meet was to send as many runners as possible to the NCAA cross-country championships. After strong performances on Friday, Clemson will send four runners to Madison, Wisconsin, for the championship. Jelelgo, Kosgei and Chepngetich will be the representatives from the women’s team, and Dagan will be the sole runner from the men’s team. Dagan is the first Tiger to qualify for the men’s cross-country national championships meet since 2007.
The meet will take place this Saturday, Nov. 23, and the Tigers are looking to bring some silverware back to Clemson from Madison, Wisconsin.
