The city of Clemson has issued a permit to remodel the former Clemson IHOP location to an urgent care facility at 1390 Clemson Blvd.
The previous tenant, an IHOP location which closed in 2021, has been vacant and sits across the parking lot from Publix supermarket near Tiger Boulevard.
While the permit expires in April 2025, construction has not yet begun in the interior or exterior of the building location.
Dovetail Construction applied for the permit in April and is responsible for other urgent uare facility construction projects in the upstate. Dovetail took on both Prisma Health Urgent Care projects off Woodruff Road and Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greenville, which were both previously restaurants, according to an article by The Post and Courier.
“I think that Clemson needs another urgent care location that is closer to Clemson where the community can receive treatment when needed and not have to drive to Seneca or Easley to get care. The location they will be in is very convenient for Clemson students and others that need treatment nearby,” Jacob Clark, a freshman general engineering major at Clemson, told The Tiger.
Prisma Health Urgent Care announced previously that they will launch five new facilities throughout the Midland region around Columbia, South Carolina, according to a press release.
Michael Duchynski, chief medical officer of Prisma Health Urgent Care, commented on his excitement for the initiative during the press release.
“Our primary goal is to reimagine urgent care for South Carolina by removing obstacles and easing access to care while delivering exceptional patient experiences,” Duchynski said.
“The expansion of Prisma Health Urgent Care is a significant step towards fulfilling this commitment. By increasing access to urgent care services, we aim to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families throughout the region, providing them with the prompt and effective care they deserve in retail locations within their communities.”
With Prisma Health Urgent Care planning to expand across the state, Greenville and surrounding areas in upstate South Carolina may see increased health clinics in rural areas.
