As the school year continues to roll by, Clemson club baseball saw its fall season come and go. The team had a strong season, starting on Sept. 5 and concluding on Oct. 6.
Led by president Evan Mastrobattisto and vice president Caden Colangelo, the Clemson club baseball team ended its fall season with a 6-2 record. The Tigers hope to reach their goal of qualifying for the National Club Baseball Association regional tournament and World Series, with the ultimate goal of winning it next May.
The team consists of 25 players who are eager to play at the collegiate level. While everyone is looking to compete, ultimately, the club is built as an organization with the intention of having fun.
“Memorable, exciting and promising,” Colangelo said in an interview with The Tiger. “Promising for how good the younger class is, how many returners we have this year and what we can build on.”
The fall season saw the Clemson club baseball team succeed as it faced North Georgia, NC State and Virginia Tech, coming out with only two losses.
Colangelo recalled the challenges the Tigers faced during the series when competing against Virginia Tech. Clemson competed well, winning two of the three games against Virginia Tech.
“(Virginia) Tech is a good team,” Colangelo said. “(They put) a lot of pressure on defense and catchers.”
Clemson club baseball is determined to have a victorious spring season and has already begun with a promising fall season.
“Man, we have something good here,” Colangelo said.
The team typically competes in one or two fall series, with the fall season being focused primarily on inter-squad scrimmages and practice. The Tigers’ primary season is in the spring, with daily practices beginning in January and between 25 and 30 games throughout the semester.
The organization is self-funded, with a portion allotted by the Student Funding Board. Due to this, all players must pay dues and participate in fundraising events throughout the year.
Students eager to get on the field can gain further information about tryouts through their Instagram, @clemsonclubbaseball or on TigerQuest. The team typically holds fall tryouts along with case-by-case basis tryouts in the spring.
