The Tigers extended their win streak to six this weekend with a victory over NC State, 68-58, while the Wolfpack fell to 9-12 (2-8 ACC).
With the win, Clemson head coach Brad Brownell tallied his 450th career victory, making him the winningest head coach in Clemson basketball history.
Brownell’s squad showed grit, playing impressive defense throughout the contest and holding their opponent to just 58 points. The Tigers (18-4, 10-1 ACC) held NC State to just 38% from the field. However, the Wolfpack stayed in the game by shooting 41% from beyond the arc.
Clemson standout Chase Hunter led the team in scoring, recording 20 points for the team. Hunter returned to the starting lineup after missing the start against Virginia Tech due to the flu.
Vikton Lakhin followed with 13 points and 11 rebounds, recording his fourth double-double this season. He also reached the personal accolade of scoring 1,000 points in his collegiate career, which he achieved in the second half.
Chauncey Wiggins added 11 points of his own, while Ian Schieffelin added 8 in the win.
Clemson scored evenly across the two halfs, with 34 points in each half. Though the Tigers only had a 3-point lead to start the second half, they started strong and fended off any comeback attempt NC State tried to build.
With this solid ACC performance, Clemson remains in second place in the conference, with a matchup against first place and No. 2 Duke looming just one week away. With a win on Tuesday, the Tigers and Blue Devils would play for the No. 1 seed in the ACC.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday at 9 p.m., when they take on Georgia Tech at Littlejohn Coliseum.
