As the college baseball season is set to begin in just a few weeks, two former Tigers have received the call-up to Major League Baseball.
Clemson baseball announced this past weekend that Jimmy Obertop and Jacob Hinderleider are joining the Colorado Rockies after signing free-agent deals with the organization.
Obertop played one season with Clemson after transferring from the University of Michigan. He batted a career-high .303 with the Tigers and tied for the team lead in home runs with 22 last season. Over his college career, Obertop boasted a .278 batting average with 51 home runs and 153 RBIs.
Obertop’s strength at the plate was recognized both on and off the field, as he was named Clemson’s most valuable offensive player last season.
Hinderleider also played just one year with the Tigers, transferring from Davidson College to complete his last season. In his sole season with the team, he set a career-high 13 home runs and tied his career-best batting average at .336. Throughout his collegiate career, Hinderleider put up a .291 batting average with 38 home runs and 193 RBIs.
In addition to his offensive performance, Hinderleider excelled defensively and was named a cowinner of Clemson’s most valuable defensive player award last year.
The former Tigers will look to rise up the Rockies’ minor league ladder in years to come, in hopes of achieving dreams of making it to the major leagues.
