Clemson traveled to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Sunday to take on the No. 23 Tar Heels in an ACC matchup. Despite some players achieving some of their highest scores this season, the Tigers fell short to the Tar Heels 196.575-195.800.
Brie Clark has put up some of the top scores this season, recording the top three highest scores for Team 2. This Sunday was no different for the gymnast, as she put up a new season high of 9.950 on the floor against UNC. Clark won the event, followed by Maggie Holman and Lilly Lippeatt, who both scored 9.825.
Clark was not the only event winner on the day for the Tigers. Madison Minner stuck her landing on the vault to secure a score of 9.850.
Last week, Trinity Brown won the event for the Tigers home opener, but she could not compete this week due to an injury sustained during her floor exhibition performance. Sophomore Kate Bryant stepped in for Brown and scored a 9.750. Eve Jackson and Holman scored a 9.725, and Clemson ended the vault with a 48.750.
The Tigers had another event winner on bars, where freshman Hannah Clark scored a 9.875. Senior Lauren Rutherford, sophomore Quinn Kuhl and Lippeatt scored 9.850 on bars and at the halfway point in the meet, Clemson scored 98.000 overall.
Clemson closed out the day on beam, where the Tar Heels put up the top three scores, but Lippeatt and Clark tied for fourth, scoring a 9.825. Danika Nielsen and Sierra Church followed close behind, scoring 9.800 and 9.775, respectively.
Despite its best efforts to close the day with a win, Clemson fell short to UNC 196.575-195.800.
The Tigers will be back at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday at 7 p.m., where they will host No. 13 NC State for their annual pink meet.
