At a Clemson Undergraduate Student Government meeting on Monday, student senators proposed two capital improvement projects to finance improvements to the Reflection Pond.
The first proposed project is to improve the area surrounding the pond to include more seating.
The funds would be used toward the purchase and installation of either traditional bench seating, which costs approximately $4,000 to $6,000 each, or swing-style seating, which costs around $15,000 to $25,000 each.
The goals of this proposed renovation are to enhance the University campus experience for students by creating a functional gathering area for students, as well as improving the overall aesthetics of the campus.
The second proposed project is to install programmable lights in the Reflection Pond so that each individual fountain in the pond is visible during all hours of the day.
The main benefit of adding these lights is to highlight occasions such as national holidays and other important days throughout the year to improve campus appearances, as the lights that would be purchased can be programmed as a specific color for a certain amount of time.
A total of $75,000 was requested from CUSG to complete this project. A majority of this total would be used to install the electrical wiring underground and finance the purchase of the lights that would be installed.
At the next CUSG meeting, both of these capital improvement policies will be proposed as bills to the Student Senate. The student senators will then choose how much of their fund, which is approximately $84,800, to allocate toward these capital improvement projects.
