Student senators approved bills allocating funding toward capital improvement projects and modifying Cooper Library’s hours to be open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays for the rest of the spring semester. The three bills were approved at a Clemson Undergraduate Student Government legislative meeting on Feb. 17.
Student senators discussed two projects regarding the allocation of funds from the CUSG capital investment fund: The Clemson Reflection Pond Enhancement Project and the Reflection Pond Seating Project.
The approval of the bills will allow both projects to receive funding, with the Clemson Reflection Pond Enhancement project having priority to receive the money needed to complete the project. Any leftover funds will be allocated to the Reflection Pond Seating project.
Student Sen. Josh Reyes proposed the Clemson Reflection Pond Enhancement project, which includes adding underwater LED lighting fixtures at each of the 12 fountains. These LED lights are fully programmable from a control unit, which would be housed in a nearby mechanical room.
Another student senator, Will Forrester, proposed the Reflection Pond Seating project, which includes adding two benches to different areas around the Reflection Pond. These benches would be either swinging benches or benches that are the same model as the ones currently on campus.
In total, CUSG has $84,826.29 in a capital investment fund this year, which is available for allocation to any projects that the Student Senate chooses. Every year, $50,000 is added to the capital investment fund, and any money that is not used during a fiscal year rolls over to the next.
