Fresh off a three-game winning streak, Clemson men’s basketball heads to Dallas, Texas, for a matchup against SMU on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The Tigers are riding high after a string of victories against top-tier opponents, including statement wins over Duke and North Carolina at home and a road victory at Florida State.
The Mustangs, tied for fourth in the conference, have a record of 20-6 overall and are coming off a dominant win away against Notre Dame, where the team had a 24-point victory on Wednesday night.
A win against Clemson would help the Mustangs with an ACC Tournament double bye, which is given to the top four teams in the conference after the regular season.
The Mustangs will utilize guard Boopie Miller, who has been particularly strong in the paint, scoring 13.4 total points per game. He also averages a team-high 5.7 assists a contest but will be a game-time decision to play against the Tigers. The redshirt junior has missed the last two games with a foot injury.
For Clemson, the key to continuing its success will be maintaining its recent defensive intensity. Over the past three games, the Tigers have held opponents to an average of 60.6 points. Additionally, their rebounding has been a difference-maker, averaging 35.6 per game overall.
With SMU leading the ACC in points per game (82.7) and rebounds per game (39.8), these two elements of the game will be key for Brad Brownell and his squad’s success.
Offensively, Clemson has been dominating, led by Chase Hunter, who is averaging 17 points per game. The Tigers are shooting 46.9% from the field and have been effective from beyond the arc, hitting 38.4% of their three-pointers.
Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. The Tigers will look to keep their momentum rolling as they prepare for the postseason ahead.
