Clemson hosted the then-No. 16 Stanford Cardinal in Littlejohn Coliseum and fell short of an upset with a final score of 196.925-196.575.
After a rocky start on the final rotation, Eve Jackson took to the floor in a brand-new purple and white uniform. Jackson landed both her passes and scored a near-perfect score of 9.950, a career high for the redshirt senior.
Redshirt sophomore Lilly Lippeatt began on floor for the Tigers but struggled with a landing and scored a 9.675. Sophomore Maggie Holman followed, but with too much power on one of her tumbling passes, she stepped out of bounds, resulting in a 9.625. Redshirt junior Madison Minner helped gain the momentum back for the Tigers with a 9.850, and redshirt junior Brie Clark closed out the day with a 9.925 — her fifth consecutive score of 9.900 or higher on floor.
Sophomore Quinn Kuhl began the day for the Tigers on vault, scoring a 9.725. Holman and graduate Tara Walsh had strong landings to score 9.850, and Minner was close behind with a 9.825. Jackson closed the rotation with a 9.800. After rotation one, Stanford led 49.350-49.050.
Lippeatt began the second rotation for the Tigers, sticking her landing and scoring a 9.800. Clemson added sophomore Takoda Berry back into the lineup on bars this week, who followed Lippeatt and stuck her landing to secure a 9.875 for the Tigers. Graduate Rebecca Wells and freshman Hannah Clark closed out the second rotation with two more scores of 9.875, and the Tigers were down 98.350-98.300 at the halfway point.
Lippeatt also opened the third rotation on beam with a score of 9.800. Brie Clark followed with a 9.825, and despite a fall by freshman Danika Nielsen, Walsh and Kuhl were able to close out the third rotation with a 9.750 and 9.875, respectively.
Despite a convincing floor rotation, Stanford stayed consistent, winning three out of four events with a final score of 196.925-196.575.
The Tigers will be back in Littlejohn on Friday to take on the University of New Hampshire and Texas Woman’s University at 5 p.m.
